Help your students to become proficient at creating and using their online accounts by encouraging them to write their account information down. Our school provides agenda planners for all students, and I ask my students to create a page in the back of it where they can write their account information. Too often students will forget their account information, so encouraging them to write it down will help alleviate this problem. Every time we create an account at a website, I remind my students to record their username and password in their agenda planners.

First step to getting ready to activate student emails would be to download your student info from My Data (at the LAUSD website). Choose current students, classroom info, and there will be a link for student email information towards the top of the page. You can export the information (into an Excel spreadsheet). Delete unnecessary columns (like your own name) enlarge the fonts for ket data (like student email addresses and PINs), and print out this information.
Pass out the individual rows to each student, have the students copy their information onto their cheat sheets, and have students glue their cheat sheets into their agenda or somewhere where they'll be able to refer to it throughout the year.
This is a great way to reinforce the concept of responsibility for your students. Remind your students they need to be responsible with this information. They'll be needing it all year long.

Copy this cheat sheet for your students in preparation for activating student emails.
More to follow with obtaining the data your students will need to add to this cheat sheet.
Your students will be able to refer to this cheat sheet all year long when sign-in problems arise.

Preparing for getting LAUSD students started with their emails (activation).
Getting your students to activate their student email accounts is like unlocking the key to the vault of unlimited opportunities. Once you have accomplished this task, you and your students can access many other useful tools that will aid you ion your lesson delivery and assessments.
Step one would be to complete the RUP required by the district. Download and print the document, and complete some of the required information (your name and the name of the school) before making your copies. Because there are so many required initials and and check-offs required, it's best to go through this in class using a document reader to demonstrate what your students need to do to correctly complete the form, avoiding the need to ask your students to finish any incomplete sections of the form.
Provide an incentive to motivate your students to return the forms with parent signatures on a timely basis (make it a homework requirement, show students the technology they'll have access to when completed, etc). Keep track of returned RUPs by checking them off on a five column roster.
When you have received all signed RUPs, you can save time by going into your MISIS account, clicking on the "Admin" tab, and from the drop down menu choose the "ITI Forms Status." Check the RUP box next to each student's name, and click on "Save" when finished. In doing this yourself (instead of waiting for the front office to do it), you are speeding up the process for getting your students started in the email activation process. It will probably take you about 15 minutes to do this since you will only have your own students to check off.
Now you're ready for the actual activation of the student emails. More to come...
